Webcam gives blank screen on my YM

I use my friend's laptop that is having embedded webcam in the top of the monitor. I wanted to use yahoo messenger (YM) with webcam but it just give me a blank screen. The other party that is viewing my webcam says the same.

Curious with what is happening, I tried to open skype and broadcast the webcam. It is no problem. Anybody in the skype can see me. So what is going on??? It is not because of the webcam... it must be something with the ym.

I look in ym support and says that one of the reason is because lack of light. Webcam is very sensitive and therefore it could give a blank display if lack of lights. Naaa.... it works with my skype. Afterwards, I found the site where I can test my webcam for compatibility with ym. It is here: how to test my webcam. It still does not work. However that pages tells me:

I was talking to one of my colleagues that I can trust on. He was giving me tons of advise in the work. I admired his experiences being in the different project in different countries. Our conversation was about how I felt that I had a subordinate that some of his works are done by me and I was complaining a little about it.

My friend told me that it was my fault. I created a work environment that making my subordinate comfortable with his current tasks. Any additional tasks that are given to him would result into complaints. And all of these were my fault. My friend added that it is a human nature that are reluctant to a change. He gave an example that during weekend without plan, he will fell tired and just want to stay at home. If all of the sudden, your son or spouse ask you to do something, you will be reluctant to do it. This applies as in work environment.

In summary, my fried told me to impose additional tasks to my subordinates with proper planning. Adding the task step by step with proper planning will result into less resistance. And the additional tasks will become his daily routine that he will be comfortable with. My friend added "If your sub-ordinate complains, just disregard it and push him to the limit. Tell who the boss is!".

Spaghetti Wiring

I was visiting my friend's office who are in charge of checking PocketPC (Hand Held Unit) before distributing them to respective reading center to be used by readers. When I saw the PocketPC chargers in his office is very un-organized, he defensively said "Sorry for the spaghetti wiring, It is just temporary. I will organize them later".

Well, I was thinking in my head. Why he did not organize it in the first place before using them to charge PocketPCs. I am sure that the time he will spend now to organize the spaghetti wiring will be longer. Hmmmm... anyway, it is his work space. I dont have a right to tell a person how to work. If he is comfortable with the way he works and as long as it is not affecting my work, why should I care?

Surviving Toilet

I am sorry to put this picture online my friends. I just can not help it when I see this toilet in one of the offices I visited for my work. To my surprise that people on that building is still using this toilet. Amazing.... I hope this is just temporary but the from the way it looks, it seems that the toilet has been in that condition for a long time and the building management seems does not care about it.

I know that there are other toilet that are in good condition, but not to replace this??? I just do not get it.

Just put 3 things in your ppt slide

When you are doing a presentation, try to make only 3 ideas per slide. And just put the main points. I have seen in the presentation that presenters put tons of information in the slides. I know that he/she wants to put it there so that when the slides are printed and given as a hand out, it will contain all the information in the slides. BUT it is not a good way to do presentation.

Remember that the presentation is all about showing some slides to help you maintain the flow of discussion and give better pictures of your explanations. All the details should be kept away from the slides. It could be in your notes and you can give away your notes after the presentation finish. It is important not to give your detailed notes before the presentation otherwise your audience will be busy reading your notes (well... maybe only some of them read it).

The slides should contain limited ideas and could be helpful if chart or images are shown regarding the main points. If you are presenting about the sales, you could just put in your slides regarding the progress of your sales in terms of charts. Use bold colors to emphasize the progress or decline. It will catch your audience attention and trigger them to want to know better your content of your presentation.

I hate this worry feeling

The past few days, I have been worrying about my work. I worry about what is going to happen in the next meetings, in the next reports, in the next activities. Why do I worry? I am not sure. Maybe because I know that there is something that I could not handle in my work. And I am afraid that someday there will be a problem and I will be blamed because of it.

I just hate this feeling. I could not do my activities normal. I get no enthusiasm to do an activity. I hate this feeling because it lead me to a depression and stress. I know I need to get rid of this feeling. But forgetting about the problem will not help me. It will just help me for a while until I realize that the problem is still there. I need to cope up with my work and to handle them fully. I think that is the time that my worry is done.

What do you do if you worry too much?

Got this Lenovo T61

Last week I got a new laptop from my company. It is IBM Lenovo T61. Finally, I need to let go my old laptop Toshiba satellite which I do not know what satellite model it was.

Black color with slim rigid body makes Lenovo T61 looks professional. Overall it is a good laptop powered with Intel Centrino Pro. I have heard a lot about Intel Centrino, Intel Centrino Duo, Intel Centrino Core Duo, but I do not know what is Intel Centrino Pro. I did my homework by googling it and I found out that Intel Centrino Pro is similar with Intel Centrino Duo.

My laptop comes with 2GB RAM and installed with Windows XP. With this combination, the laptop runs faster. I am not planning to move to Windows Vista anytime soon because I do not want to waste my 2GB RAM to be slowed down because of windows Vista.

I satisfied with this laptop, however, after a week using it, I found something that in my personal opinion really annoying:

1. Batterry is a little extruded at the back of laptop. I do not know why IBM has to design it this way. I dont mind with the look, but every time I lift my laptop (from the front), the back part of the laptop get pressured with the table. I am afraid that in time, this will make the battery loose from the body (laptop).

2. Keyboard sounds is annoying when I type. When i try to type fast, I apply more pressure to the keyboard pads. The sounds it loud from my opinion as compared to other laptop that I have used. I notice that space bar is the one making a lot of noise when pressed.

3. USB port is vertical. The USB port is designed vertically on the right and left of laptop. Since the body is slim, I find it difficult to put my USB to the USB port. Especially with my USB flash disc that a little bulky, I need to lift and put something under the laptop so that it can be fitted. But I thing this is normal problems that we encounter with USB port for the laptop.

Thinking of Getting New Internet Connection

I might be moving to a new apartment next month. I loved my current apartment because it comes to an internet connection through ADSL line that was installed by the owner. But since they have raised the rent unreasonably, I need to find one that I can afford.

In the new apartment, there is not internet connection yet. This is my homework to choose the best internet connection that I should avail. Currently, I am thinking either to have dial-up, DSL, cable ISP or Wireless. Dial up is the cheapest one when I tried to ask around internet provider in my area. However, the bandwith they provide for upload and download is very small. Well, what can I expect from the budgeted internet fee.

DSL and cable ISP seem to be more expensive but you can use DSL or cable ISP for making VOIP phone calls on your laptop or PC. I use voip calling a lot and I seldom have problems with the quality when using DSL in my current apartment. Cable ISP seems to be very interesting and some of the company offer a package with very low prices. Bad thing is that the provider is still not serving my area. Well, just need to wait until they do. In the meantime, I will look for another type of connection.

Wireless connection on the other hand is quite unique. It requires me to pay some deposit of the equipment that will be installed in my place. Basically, they will install an external antenna and some cables. And for this, they asked for a deposit. The deposit amounts is usually 3-4 times the monthly fee for the internet connection. In the long run, wireless connection seems to be a cheaper alternative withou sacrificing the quality of your internet connection. However, the internet provider should do a survey on my apartment if I can get a direct signal. High building could block the wireless internet signal.

I might spend 1-2 days more to test the best connection. I have some friends that are using connection other than DSL. I will bring my laptop and test the upload and download speed in their place. This could be a gauge for me to decide later on.

Creating an effective report

I have been creating many reports for my work. Either daily, weekly or monthly reports. I realize that because of the repetitions, the reports are often being ignored by my boss. For example in this weekly report, I stated that we have problem in the progress because of lacking of 1 human resources. By the time this problem appears in every weekly report, the problem becomes unnoticable.

Recent conversatio with my friend, he was giving me some inputes on how to make effective reports that gets attention on upper management to do action. I can summarize what my friend said to me into several points below:
1. Start with the problem. He said that it is more effective to start the report showing all the negative sides. After that, we can show all the positives sides. In the end, what takes attention of bosses are the beginning of the report.
2. Rephrase all the problem in every report (if not yet solved). Repetition is a good technique to remind upper management or other parties about the points that we want to convey. In addition, rephasing it in every report can greatly catch the attention when somebody reads the report.
3. Show problems in organized ways. Try to group by maximum of 3 points. Reader of the report could easily grasp the information if the information is groupped into smaller piece.

I hope this little conversation with my friend could help you in creating reports that catch the attention of the reader to do action.

After long hours of working and tired, I tried to check my emails while enjoying a cold glass of juice. I saw this forwarded email from my friend. This is a TRUE STORY ...and also someone told me it happened to her in Kedah ..Tunjang..I think…. It happened to us too, in PERLIS (titi chai kangar..the pasar malam area where they always sell GORENG PISANG at noon .)

My uncle saw them frying GORENG PISANG & they added the STRAWS ( which we use to drink water) and melted them into HOT OIL before frying anything...That’s why, the GORENG PISANG, GORENG UBI..etc all stay very crispy for hours....

And, my uncle could not explain why, and he asked them, they just keep quiet and then when my uncle told my mom, then we realized this is how to make the foods crispy…..
My mom said, be careful of Thailand stuffs too e.g.: Crispy Ikan Bilis, Crispy fried onions …..which if u leave in the open air for hours, it’s still crispy..

Like in CANADA, we only have rain 5-times or less a YEAR. So, if we leave our bread in open air overnight, the next day it will be really crispy or dry because the environment here is very dry. But in Malaysia, it should not happen because there is too much moisture.

The world is changing! I read some news….oh my my... not only the Chinese are wicked but everywhere... here the news comes... I have been to Cameroon highlands with my family, it was 3 pm ++ We are hanging around the market area, we saw many hawker stall doing their business, suddenly something attracted me...
One of the stalls, there was a big wok of oil, there was a half-5-litre empty plastic oil bottle on it. It's melting slowly in the hot frying oil... I freaked out, I thought it was an unintentional act by a 7-yr-old girl .... But when I looked closely, I saw a pair of chopsticks stirring the bottle. Immediately, I asked my family to come and check it out... At that moment, the parents of the girl who were present, were looking at us ferociously.

Oh my god... They are using melted plastic to fry food...
The reason is the fried foods will not soften after sitting out for sometime due to plastic.

We experimented and did as below:
One without plastic, the food is kind of soft after a while and then add plastic, and fry the same thing once again... It crispier than KFC !!
Please stop eating this hawker's fried food...This is their secret recipe...

I have seen many ads in the sites with interesting moving images stored in gif files. Some are also putting video advertising to give more duration to the movie ad. But this could slow down the ad being displayed in the site or blogs.

What interest me is the ads that I have seen recently. Well, I might have seen that a long time a go but did not bother to notice it. Until recently I had nothing to do and start looking at the ads. It surprises me that the ad were interacting with my mouse movement and clicks. The ad was basically saying me to do some mouse movement and clicks to reach a goal. To give you a concrete example, I saw an ad that told me to move the airplane (inside the ad area) and shot the missiles. When I move my mouse over the ad area, the airplane moves as well. 4 More Years To Pay My Mortgages

I am not a bit updated with financial news, but last month news were populated with the down of stock that were caused by mortgage related problem in US. Why does it affect the stocks? I just assume that problematic of mortgage payments showed an indication of slower market in the region.

Bromo and Semeru Mountains

In celebration of Indonesia Visit 2008, I would like to share my journey before to Bromo and Semeru. It is one of my memorable experience if I might tell you honestly. I was really exhausted to do the trip but it paid off after looking the scenery there.

Bromo is located in East Java. If you travel by air, you need to land in Surabaya city and continue with land transportation to Ranu Pani Village. The village is small but full of facilities because it is well known for tourist spots in East Java. From the village, you can visit the view deck where you see the Bromo mountain with 2329 meter altitude and at the back of it, you can see the Semeru mountain with 3,676 meter altitude. Semeru mountain is the highest mountain in Java island.

If you want to take a closed look at Bromo and Semeru volcanoes, you need take a 4WD jeep to reach there. Make sure you consult first with the local government for the safe time to visit because Bromo and Semeru volcanoes are considered an active volcanoes. When traveling to approach Semeru (called as well as Mahameru), you would find interesting sites and scenery to enjoy. It was a good visit for me.

Windy Sahara

Sahara desert is very nice place to visit. This is my third time going to sahara desert. The only difference is that my third visit was on January. It was not a good time to go there, but I wanted to experience sahara in "winter". I wore a winter cloth because it is cold and windy.

I went with my 2 other friends and we stopped at the border of sahara to have lunch. While cooking, we had noticed that the wind is so strong. I can feel already sands in my mouth every time I open my mouth to talk.

After lunch, we decided to go deep into the desert. Well, it is not so deep because we already feel that the wind blown hard. It was even difficult for us to open our eyes because all the sands were blowing directly to our eyes. We needed to find places in high sand dunes so that the effect of sand flying is reduced.

It was really a different experience being in sahara dunes during windy seasons. Although we could not to sit down and make a tea in sahara desert, we really enjoyed being there and feel windy sahara.

Images hosted in photobucket is out of limit

I used a theme from B-theme and all the images are hosted in Photobucket. Unfortunately, photobucket gives a limit for free images hosting. Due to many people are using this template, the bandwidth excesses the limit.

Well, I am still waiting a response from the theme creator if he/she will give the images that we could host ourselves. Otherwise, I might change the theme to avoid this problem again. The theme is well designed, I like it. But I have no choice if the theme maker could not give any solution on this problem.

Nasi Goreng Special

Wow.... I miss nasi goreng (fried rice) all of the sudden. I used to buy nasi goreng from the walking vendor (abang-abang) that passes by in front of my house. If you notice it, it seems to be easy to make it. Just fry chopped garlic, onions and put rice with "kecap manis" (sweet soy sauce). But when I try to make it my own, the taste is very different. Well, maybe the seller puts more vetsin/msg/any flavoring... hehehe....

To make it special, nasi goreng is usually served with fried egg, and "emping" (cracker from melinjo seed).

Pagudpud located in North of Philippines (Ilocos Norte) is well known of its beach. Pagudpud was named because during old days, most of the area should be travelled by foot. Not long after, many hackers took advantages of this hole by attacking users of Quicktime player. Unfortunately, quicktime player are most used by Firefox webbrowsers. This event, ofcourse, bring firefox developers into a head ache while they are trying to campaign a slogan "Safe Browsing".

Apple in this matter tried to resolve the problem quickly by releasing new patch. Now, quicktime users not need to worry about this problems. But until when? nobody will know!

A big conference was held in Bali discussing about Climate Change. One thing that interest me is the discussion about 5 reasons of avoiding burning forest to open new area for plantations.

Most farmers or plantations company use method of burning forest to open new area or land clearing because it is considered as the cheapest way. However, they should know the consequences in doing so.

1. Wood biomass that present in forest keeps nutrition for the land. Land clearing by burning will invoke loss of land quality to prevent erosion and water quality under the land.
2. Burning is obviously produces excessive smokes that can affect global warming.
3. Wood in forest can be used for paper materials. So, why burning them?.
4. Burning will produce excessive carbon that can affect the quality of next plantations. The result of next plantations will be greatly affected.
5. If it difficult to control the spread of fire in the area. Windy environment can spread out the fire to locations that was supposed not to be cleared.

Whoah.... I was experiencing severe sore throat and flu last 3 days. It made me too lazy to post something. Every time I opened my Laptop and got online. I just spent time checking my emails and replied the important ones. Other than that, I was just lying down watching some tv shows or reading. The sore throat was the one killing me. I even did not comfortable to speak. It must be because of unpredictable weather nowadays.

Good thing I am getting better today and it is now weekend :D I hope I am not to excited to spend my weekend since I am still in my recovering period. I am now also rechecking my mails to reply them.

Just a little tips for everyone, do not forget to drink a lot of water and get enough rest. You do not want to be "forced" to rest because of sick. Enjoy your weekend :D

I have said to myself before to learn how to code blog theme in Photoshop CS and tried to code them into a running blog theme from a scratch. Unfortunately I was not able to finish learning them in 2 weeks as I challenged my self. Shame on me! The reason was because my errands becoming more and more for the past few weeks. Starting from work problems up to as simple as house chores. Well, something needs to be prioritized.

Where do you put your extra money for your passive or additional income?

As an ordinary worker that put effort from 8am-5pm in the office (well, sometimes up to 10pm), I tend to try to put my savings to some programs that could bring me some passive income. I have tried some HYIP (High Yield Investment Programs) Online and got scammed twice. The good thing is that I only invested there around $10-$50 to test their program. Now, I never trust those HYIP Online anymore. If some of you really get good return, then, good luck to you and stay safe.

I tried also playing FOREX and it really consumed my time to search and monitor the progress. Being greedy, I lost about $1000+ in the process. Please take note that even I have benefits some passive incomes from forex managed funds and mutual funds, there are NOT risk free. Those kind of investments involve risk of losing money. They put it clearly on the form when I signed up. Thus, only put your additional money that you can risk on those types of investments.

Although it is just 6 November now, I need to think a little bit of Christmas gift ideas for my parents, brothers, and some of my friends. Why so early? because I would not want to be in rush for my Christmas shopping in December. You must have experience the crowded store during December. Borobudur Temple – The biggest Buddhist temple in Indonesia

Borobudur temple located in the Jogjakarta city on central Java and it is the biggest Buddhist temple in Indonesia. Some archaeologists believe that Borobudur temple was abandoned during 14th century following the fall of Buddhist in Central Java and Javanese stated to convert to Islam. It was then that Borobudur was discovered by Sir Thomas Raffles, the British ruler of Java in 1814. Since then, the Borobudur has undergone some restorations and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I have been 3 times went to Borobudur temple and I was always amazed on how many tourist (both local can foreign) to appreciate the structures and reliefs of the temple.

When I was traveling by car in the city, the rain started to drops. I was stucked in the traffic and watching out from the window of my car. Not long from the time where the rain started, I saw the children were running out from the small alleys on the side of the main road. They were running with a closed umbrella on the hand.

They are what we call “Umbrella Jockey” in our city. They bring an umbrella and lend it to someone who needs it at the cost of $0.1 - $0.5. People usually borrow the umbrella and paid it just to pass by from building to building. Or just to go to the taxi from the building terrace without getting wet. The children will follow the person under the rain.

What interest me is how the children seem do not care when they are totally wet under the rain. I always remember when I was child that my mom always told me not to play on the rain because it can make me sick. But these children, they seemed not to care. The rain is nothing for them; it will not make them sick. They just need $1 before the rain stops!

My Blog got PageRank (PR) 4

I did not realize that my blog now has PR4. I just read in the forum that Google is finally uploading the PR data to most data centers recently to update all PRs. After reading the forum, I checked my blog. Surprisingly for me, I got PR4 :D

To those who still does not know what PR is, you can try reading it at wikipedia page rank. The summary is that the higher your PR, the higher your popularity in term of Google Page Rank algorithm. For some webmaster, PR means nothing! The important is site traffic and how the traffic converts into cash. Well, they are right. But I am personally happy this this PR update because it means something for a beginner like me who just started to make this blog 3 months ago.

So, what did I do for the last 3 months to have my PR increased from PR0 to PR4?

1. I did exchange links to related websites or blogs. Many said that exchanging link with related site with higher PR will surely increase my PR. But I did not find many of high PR blogs wanted to exchange links with my PR0 blog. So, I did exchanges with mostly PR0 as well. Some are kind enough to give me link from their high PR blogs.

2. I put comments on blogs with DOFOLLOW and high PR. They remove the NOFOLLOW attribute because they believe to give rewards to pass a little PR juice to commentators. Ofcourse, do not spam the comments. I always read their posts and only comment when I understand the topics and wanted to comment. In the end, I kept coming to their sites and becoming their loyal readers. We became friends. One of them even put a post link to my site. Thanks mates. My blog is also now has DOFOLLOW attribute.

My task now to keep and even increase my blog PR further. So, those are the two major things that I did the last 3 months. Nothing specials and nothing fancy. I am sure you can do the same :D

Finishing the basic learning to create WP theme

Ok! Now I have finished the tutorials on WP theme, and below is the results. Nothing to be proud of because of its simplicity. But I am proud to myself that finally I got motivated to start learning it step by step. The print screen below is the theme without single image/graphic incorporated. It is just pure coding of colors. I will try to learn designing it with better graphics once I now the basic codes now.

In the process of learning to code the theme, I also learn the basics of php and css styling. I think I love the css styling process instead of table format that the old html used to have. With css styling, I could be more imaginative and easily modify the layout of website or WP blog theme.

Next step for me is to design WP theme using photoshop and code if after finishing the design. I challenge myself to finish them in 2 week aside my regular tasks at work and chores at home :D. The count starts today!

Eat well before you travel

It seems like a usual tips that our parents tell us before we go on travel. But today, I experience the pain myself because not eating well before traveling by car. And the worst thing is that I am only traveling in the city!!!

Yup, I never thought that traveling in the city could be such pain in the ass. It was really happening to me yesterday. I needed to visit some areas in the field and I did not take my breakfast seriously. We went from one place to another by car. What makes it different was that the road is not paved yet. It is just land streets that makes our cars bumping all the way along our travels. The first hour of travel was a nightmare. I started to feel a headache and an ill felling on my stomach. Finally, I decided to tell the driver to stop over and have some food. But I think I was too late, after eating and rest a while, I still feel the headache and stomach problems.

Whoaahh.. I had the feeling of this even for the rest of the day. The good thing is that I feel better today when I woke up. Piuhhh!

Watching Transformer the Movie

I know that this Transformer movie has been long launched. Poor me that I just got a chance to watch it today. I remember 3 months ago when it was showing in the movie house near my house, it was jam packed with a long queue. I was deciding to watch other movie.

Today my friend came and brought with her this Transformer DVD. We were watching with some snacks (of course). The movie was great in general. The graphics were fantastic. I just confuse sometime which of which when they were fighting because the movements were so fast and the robots looked the same from some angle.

What sticked to my mind now is when the one of the autobots (I forgot his name) was fighting against Megatron. When the autobot was about to loose and was grabbed by Megatron, he kept saying "You want a piece of me, You want a piece of me" while firing at Megatron. Megatron said "No, I want two pieces of you" and ripping the autobot into two. Aww.. that's sad :(

I am not the person who like to put figurines in my house. But this paperclip Figurine caught my attention when it was on display in small store in Singapore. I like the idea of making this figure from paper clips. Well, the original idea was to make the figurine from the used paper clips. As you know that trough time, the paper clips could not fasten the paper anymore and people will replace with new paper clips. These old paper clips are then collected and strigthen up to make it ready for figure collections.

But in those stores, the artists have been started to make paper clips figurine from new paper clips. Well, you can not blame him/her because maybe it is more difficult to find used paper clips :P

I need to re-start my Asset Management

A long way ago, I have read the book of Robert Kiyosaki. It opened my eyes on how he gives an example of asset management. The major one is that he does not consider a property as an asset unless it gives back money from rent. We usually think that a property is an asset because it increase the value over the time. But we sometimes do not realize that the increase of values does not bring us any profit when we bought it using loans and the interest is higher. Not to mention that other expenses that we need to pay monthly or yearly for the property asset. Of course that the real estate agent will tell you the property is a good investment for your asset management. But try to do the computation yourself before taking any decisions.

In the book, I read how he manage the asset. It is not using any asset management software. In fact, I can do it in Excel. You do not need to attend asset management training to understand the concepts.

The bad thing was when I started to put some of my asset in my digital asset management excel, I got busy and loose track of it after several months. Well, busy should not be a reason.. because what i need is proper time management. Now, I am going to be back and restart my personal asset management.

The last few long travels by car at night, I got bored! Simply because I just sit at the back seat and I could not enjoy the side seeings. This is why I am thinking now to have a Portable player. I had searched quite some time to find the model that will suit me.

At first, I liked the idea of small screen Player with hard disk inside so it would come handy along with my travel. However, I realized that most of my movies are in DVD. It would take time to transfer all of them into hard disk. It would be difficult only to select some movies to transfer because I like to watch different movie genres depending on the mood. In addition, my friend suggested me a portable DVD player for practicality because my family can use them as well during daily traffic routines in the car.

Well, I am thinking now to buy portable 10 inch DVD player. The screen is not so small so that I can enjoy the movie during my trips. I will just bring with me my DVD album for different movie genres. Player that comes with TV tuner could be the best choice so that I can watch local news as well.

Today, my friends and I hang out in a nice coffee shop while having friendly conversations. The topic went to whether it is better to have vitamin supplements or energy drinks? Well, that shows you that we did not have much topics to discuss, huh? hehehe.

The truth is that we human beings require each time more that we already have. So, rich people complain that money has stolen their happy days and those who are not so financially fortunate say that only money could complete their life, that they would surely get everything else on their own if only they had the means to do that.

It is not accurate to say money brings happiness, because it doesn’t. But at the same time one can not claim money has nothing to do with it. We are never really happy, maybe just for the brief moment when we reach our purposes or complete one of our dreams. But then, very soon after that, a new totally different problem or desire arises to take that happiness away. It’s human nature to be unsettled and uncertain and it is not a bad thing.

Whether we want to admit it or not, we all are happy at certain moments in life, but all we say is that we are never happy. There’s always something to inflict with our self-assurance or way of living that makes us nervous, sad or depressed.

And money is indeed one of those factors. Many people need it just to pay for food and shelter and they are happy if it’s enough to provide just that. But others, and I’m not talking here about rich people, they already have some living assurance and need more money for other desires or things they want to buy. And the list can go on and on as we climb social and financial levels one at a time. Everyone wants something, and once they have it it’s not enough or just too much and too stressful to deal with.

In fact, we should be happy just with what we have and stop thinking about money so much. Money is an important factor in achieving stability and eventually even happiness because we let it, we even push it up to that pedestal. Funny Picture - El Rastro Flea Market

When I was visiting Madrid for a short time, one of the places I visited is El Rastro Flea Market. My friend who live in Madrid told me that it will be a good experience to visit El Rastro that is open only in Sunday morning and finish the shoppings with couple of beers around the area. At least, this is what he usually does to kill time with his friends.

One thing that took my attention was when I found a beggar along the El Rastro market. The beggar had several signs where people put money on. The signs are "PARA CERVEZA", "PARA WHISKY", "PARA RESACA". Well, I dont understand much Spanish words but my friend told me that it means "FOR BEERS", "FOR WHISKY", "FOR RESACA". What an idea to ask money in the street :D

I took my cellphone and took a picture of it. All of the sudden, this guy brought out another sign and showed it to me "PARA FOTO... EUR50". Whuahaha... I wanted to took the picture as well of this sign but I was afraid that this guy would get mad if I took another picture. Also, I did not want to pay EUR50 only for this. It is better to spend my EUR to treat my friends who have been accompanying me around in Madrid. In any case, I got a funny picture I already.

Trip to Sukabumi, West Java – Water rafting and War game

Sukabumi is one of the places that often missed by the tourists when they visit Indonesia, especially West Java. Sukabumi is only 2 hours drive from Jakarta. To tell you honestly, I also almost missed visiting Sukabumi :P.

I was asked by my friends to visit Sukabumi 2 years ago. We went there by car from Jakarta. The side views was amazing if you if nature. By the way, we contacted an agent first before coming to Sukabumi to arrange the water rafting that we wanted to try. We did not plan to spend overnight, so we just booked for the facilities to do water rafting.

We got at the resort place in Sukabumi around 10 in the morning, the instructor has been ready for us and taught the basic water rafting and some survival basic in case of emergency. We rode up a jeep to reach the river and started water rafting. Whoooah, we enjoyed it so much. We rode down the river for about 12 km. Not very long, but good enough for starters like us to enjoy. It was a nice experience.

After finish water rafting, we still have time before leave Sukabumi. So, we tried War game as well. I could never imagine that in the war game you fell like a real war. I was becoming so afraid to walk or run in open area. I was hiding behind the trees or bushes. Just crawling around to reach the flags of the other team. I knew that I have limited bullets so I need to use it wisely. Well, in the end my team lose because the other team had a great sniper I must say. Even if my friend was hiding under the bushes, when he was raising up his head to look around. Baaaannng, his helmet was covered by red color due to red painted bullet.

I like to travel especially doing some outdoor activities. The problem that I used to encounter was when it came to pack my things. I like to bring most of my outdoor gadgets to enable me to do more activities in the places I visited. But as you know that traveling outdoor should be having your back pack as light as possible since I will involve walking a lot while carrying my back pack.

One thing that seems to be ignored by us and could bring us a lot of hassle is a towel. Have you been in the situation where you are confused to bring a big towel or a small towel? You want to bring a big towel because it will dry you up fast after taking a bath or after swimming from the beach. On the other hand, you do not want to have a hassle bringing back a wet large towel in your back pack that will add up to the hassle.

Well, the good thing is that you can find many sports towel that could resolve your problems. I bought this sport towel 2 years back and it helped me a lot. This towel is made from special material that can absorb a great amount of water considered its small size. I just need to squeeze the towel to dry it up and use it again to dry myself. Vigan is considered one of the heritage city in the Philippines. I visited the town 5 years ago with my friends. Yeah... it is a long time age. But I bet that the city center buildings do not change much because they want to preserve the old style that the Spanish build hundred years back.

I like the city as it gave me a different ambiance. I can just spend hours walking around the city looking at the different styles of old buildings. And people are still living under them. Well, mostly are store now. If you get tired walking, you can always stop by in the big round about near the city center to get some drinks an local delicacies like empanada. They offer different kind of foods there. What I like is the "cornic". It is a dried corns. Some are added with flavors like cheese, garlic, etc. It just a good snack to enjoy while relaxing

Most of the time now, the sofa is on bed position because I like to stretch my legs while reading.

Hand Made Souvenir from my friend

In one of my last month posts, I had a trip to Sahara with my friend. He was born in a small town located near Sahara. That was the reason we did not spend a night in Sahara because we could travel back to the small city and spend the night in my friend's house.

His father was still living in the unique house build (I do not know exactly when) a loooong time ago. Aside from farms as the source of living, they also made hand made souvenirs to be sold in the city for tourists.

My friend gave me one of the souvenirs. I really appreciated it. Thanks man!

Finally my hard disk broke down - Put under air condition and it worked

Well, this is not a good story to tell. I noticed 3 months ago that my hard disk in the laptop started to make a rattle noise. This was quite noisy that usual. Starting from that day I planned to back up the important data every week.

As expected, a week after I encountered the "blue screen" while working with my laptop. I needed to re-start the computer and everything goes well. I might say that almost every week I encountered "blue screen" minimum 1 time.

Just last week, the hard disk finally broke. My laptop did not want to start and kept on showing the blue screen. I was not very surprised with this as I expected it to happen even 3 months ago. I just a little bit concern about last week data. It was not a big deal but I just hope that I could copy the last one before changing into the new hard disk. I tried to restart for more than 20 times but still not showing any good results. The Windows just did not want to load. Even when I tried a safe mode, somewhere in the middle, it showed again the "blue screen".

As time passed, I finally decided to stop trying. I unscrew the laptop and removed the hard disk. I decided to continue putting new hard disk and installing software the next day. To my shock, the old hard disk is very very very hot. And as you can see in the picture, the round part (where the disc is rotating) has been in BLACK color. It meant that the disc kept scratching the cover until the cover burnt up.

I was thinking may the frictions happened because the disc has been expanded due to heat and touches the cover. Desperately to give a last try, I put the hard disk under the air condition and left it all night long. I just hope that the cold temperature will shrink the disc a little bit as not to touch the cover (which were making a noisy rattle sound).

Guess what? in the morning, when I put the old hard disk back in the laptop, IT WORKED. The rattle noises were lessen. Without delaying too much, I copied all the necessary data. I did browsing also for about 2 hours until I hear again the rattle sound started to appear. I finally decided to turn off the computer, throw the old hard disk and put new hard disk.

Now, I am working with new hard disk. Until now, I did not know if I just lucky at that time or in deed, there is a effect by putting your hard disk under the air condition. For those desperate people having the same problem, there is nothing to loose to try this. Just don't put your hard disk inside your refrigerator :D

Trip to Sahara

If you read my post about my filla shoes, now it has traveled to Sahara desert. This is my second trip to Sahara and I still enjoyed it so much. Nothing much to do there but I fell good just by walking on the desert.

This time I and my friends decided not to sleep over there. We just relax and drink a tea while sitting on the sand. It was difficult in the beginning to make a fire from dried branches because of windy ambients. After 15 mins, we finally were able to light the fire and enjoy a hot tea :D

We stayed in the sand until sun set and headed back to the town.

This is one of the experiences that I will never forget. I tried this paraglide when I visited West Java. My friend brought me to a mountain area around 40 km from Bandung. I was told that there will be an instructor who will be my paraglide buddy. That relieves me since I never know how to handle this kind of things.

Actually, I did nothing during take off and landing. My instructor did all the job :D I just participated by running during take off, handle the bar little bit during flying, and offer my butt for a butt landing instead of proper landing.

During the rest of time we were on the air, I enjoyed the view and took pictures. It was a moment of silent that I really enjoyed on the air.

Today I bought this HP Photosmart C3100 "All in one". I am not soooo gadget person but I just need scanner and printer for my personal stuff. Since I got a good deal, I get this device. The design is slim for such a device with printer and scanner in one.

As usual, we all started by installing the driver for this device. The product comes with a CD contains a lot of software. Just imagine that I need to spend more than 30 minutes to install the software and necessary drivers for this HP Photosmart C3100 to work. Well, I can blame also my laptop that is quite slow nowadays. Maybe I need to change laptop as well.

In the end, installing more than 30 minutes for all the softwares that are included are worth waiting. The software includes all necessary tools to work with images, starting from photo album, editing, etc. When I opened the first time this HP Photosmart essential software, it scans all the pictures in my computer and create indexes for future use. Just like Picasa and other photo software huh?

How to eliminate spicy taste from your mouth without water

Have you ever faced a situation where you accidentally eat spicy food or snack and you can not find water to sooth the spicy taste from your tongue?

This usually happens when you are in the car and tried to eat some snack without water. Or it just happen that the water you have if not enough to eliminate the spicy odor in your mouth.

I am a fond of spicy food and I usually eliminate the spicy feeling in my mouth by drinking hot water. Yes... hot water, not cold water. Cold water is just relieving you in a while, after that you will feel the spicy sensation again. In the end, you end up with drinking a lot of cold water. Another way to remove this spicy taste in the mouth is by eating something sweet. I do not really like this idea because I feel a weird taste eating sweets after finishing my spicy food.

I discovered this technique without water accidentally when I was eating sooooo hot food and I was running out of drinking water in the car. To make it worst, I was trapped in the traffic jam. Then... what is the technique?

1. Close your mouth by making a space inside your mouth. You do this by putting your lips together but make sure that your tongue does not touch your upper and lower(inner) mouth.
2. Extrude your lips forward a little bit. Try to maintain the space inside your mouth. It is better if you this while you are away from the public or away from the mirror.. hehehe.. because you look funny.
3. This is the important step. By doing the second step, you will feel your tongue a little bit pulled back automatically. Now, contract more your tongue muscle. It is just like making your tongue squeezed and pulled back more. If you do correctly, you fell the spicy taste even more now. But do not give it up. Hold around 5 - 10 seconds and release the contraction. Repeat this step if necessary until you really feel the spicy taste gone from your tongue.

Well, I hope this technique can be beneficial for you. It never fails me. Good luck and remember to do step 2 and 3 away from the public. Happy eating spicy food!

Travel 700 Genius Mouse

We might take for granted about our computer mouse. We usually use the mouse that is coming with our PCs... or for some of you having a laptop, you will just buy a small size mouse that looks cute or corporate. At least that was I did before.

However, after more than 10 years working with computers, I finally realized that I needed a better mouse than I can comfortable to work with. The mouse should be efficient and easy to use so that my time in browsing the screen is reduced.

Kettler Exercise Ball

Since I was staying in an apartment, I was looking for an exercise tool that can help me doing exercise. Actually, I just want a simple exercise on my stomach. Sit-up is the most simple, but sometimes I got lazy just doing a sit-up.

Before I tried some products like Abs-roller or anything similar like it, but in the end, I did not see the benefit because it is just the same like lying on our back and have your feet gripped/locked on something.

Last month, I tried to buy a kettler exercise ball. It only costed me $18. The diameter is 65 cm. Just enough for my size. It came with a pump so I don't need to blow it by myself.. hehehe. The problem is that I did not know until when I needed to stop pumping it. There is no guide or what so ever. So.. It just felling when to stop pumping it.

Trying for several days, I liked it so much because it is motivated me to do exercise. Nothing special actually with this exercise ball, but the feeling that you are not lying down on the floor while doing sit-ups made me motivated. Also, I was also trying push-up using this ball. I liked to do push up with this ball because I can adjust my weight when doing a push-up. If I wanted to start with small weight on my push-ups, I just need to roll the ball little bit on the middle of my body.. for example: just on my stomach. If I wanted to put more weights on my push-ups, I just roll the ball on my thigh area or knee. It is very flexible. The same technique I can do for sit-ups and other exercise.

Lastly, I liked to stretch myself on the ball as it can really help me during the morning. I am curious to search more on the internet other positions or exercise that use this ball. Unfortunately, the exercise guide that comes with the product is not informative enough. Some of the description and the picture are not understandable by me. Or it is just me.. hehehe. Anyway, I will try searching other exercise on the internet using this ball.

Well... I am not a big fan of futsal, but, when I saw this shoes on sale, I bought them. Beside the price that only $15, I really like the color. Black with red strips. Upon trying them, I got lucky that I got my size (42).

Next days, I used them a lot for walking. On the first tried, I still felt a little weird on my feet because it is a little bit tight. Hehehe.... of course it was tight because it was designed for a futsal. Nevertheless, I became getting comfortable day after day. Now, I like to wear them for walking.

What a deal I got. $15 for my walking shoes :D

This Trimble HandHeld is one of the affordable yet giving good accuracy of GPS. However, when you developed your own program to gather GPS, do not forget to set the minimum satellite into 4. If not, this HHU can work with only 2 satellite available. With 2 satellite, you can have significant error.

Before buying this kind of HHU, make sure you get the latest product with GPS card that can be used for post processed data. With post processed, you can even improve the accuracy of the GPS position into 0.3 - 2 meters.
